Japan Facts

Japan Fact: On New Year’s Eve, thousands of Japanese gather to buddhist temples to hear the tolling of the bells called joya no kane. The temple’s big bronze bell is tolled 108 times, one for each cardinal sin in the Buddhist universe.

It’s believed that hearing the bells purifies you of your sins and allows you to start the new year fresh and clean.
